Official identity is a current Mathematics Instructor (MS Statistics, UP Diliman) with statistics and time-series research. Registrar load spans core math, applied calculus, probability, statistical theory, time series, and an engineering-statistics special topic. The two student comments say non-majors can manage with attendance and study, that R and in-class detail matter, and that math majors may be pushed harder. That is not enough for take or avoid.

had him for math 10 also last year 😞 1. yes, he does give out Fs and Ds. he doesn't shy away from failing people, and for some reason he seems to find it funny when people do badly in his class 🥲 in our case, he went on a rant about how our batch was so stupid bc we got in ateneo without the ACET - point being, he doesn't take responsibility for being a poor instructor, and will likely blame your performance solely on you. but PLEASE don't take it to heart 🥹🫂 it's an issue on his part talaga huhu 2. first LT is always the worst, and in our case, majority got an F. and yes, all the LTs afterward are just as difficult 😭 his passing grade is 50% though, and as long as you answer all the questions to the best of ur ability, you have a solid shot at passing! 🫡 📍 TIP: highest possible score on his exams is usually 30. try focusing ur energy on answering the latter portions of his exam first, since these are usually worth 20 pts. already. 🥲🥲 3. for context, i'm a bs psych major and math isn't my forte talaga HAHAH 🫡 he does provide a textbook for your reference, but it doesn't have an answer key 😬 so what helped my friends and i was having study sessions where we would go through the sample questions tgt!! this allowed us to cross check each others' work too 😁 also, one good thing about him is that he gives the coverage of exams in advance. PLEASE use this to ur advantage and study ahead!!!! lots of my friends studied hard and got B to B+!! i got out of his class with a C+ (but i half assed his class partly out of spite bc i hated him). WHAHAHA i'm sure u can do better with hard work and wise exam prep 🫡 but yes, just loadrev out if u can 🥲more

BATALLER SURVIVOR HERE! beadle niya ako nung 2nd sem last year, and trust me when i say take the beadle position. he curves the beadle A TINY BIT kasi, meaning even if you get an 85.01, he'll make your grade 86, and if there is ANY advantage you can get, TAKE IT. to be completely honest, the book is almost entirely your lifeline and your worst enemy, because literally ALL your discussions in his class will be taken STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK. listen well, because sometimes he'll present questions in tests that arent presented well sa book. however, most of the questions will be answerable as long as you study his book RELIGIOUSLY before a quiz. he no longer gives long tests, rather he gave around 5-6 quizzes. each quiz is survivable AS LONG AS YOU STUDY THE BOOK. however, do be mentally prepared because the mindblock is real with his class. my number 1 tip talaga is to just do your best to understand the concept and dont do it like bataller, bcs he spews so much information it gets confusing talaga. do it your OWN way, and as long as it parallels naman what he's looking for, you're good i swear. B to B+ with EXTRA EXTRA effort, but the sad reality is its really easy to fall short talaga in his class and get C+ and lower bcs of his teaching style 🥲 also, last year i had to confront sir regarding his *really* questionable side remarks during class because he does that ALOT, so if ever you step up as the beadle, be sure to be ready to make that conversation w sir bataller for the class bcs bro is weird DONT BE SCARED THO! message lang if you have any concerns!!more

he's proud that he doesn't shy away from failing people ^__^ he's also a very pro-marcos if i may give u other reasons to loathe him. yung grading system niya sa isang higher math class, ano e, weird, walang quiz - 20%, LT - 70%, problem set - 10% haahah total yung kanya like your accumulated score/400 ganon haahahha BASTAHHHHH hirap bawiin talaga ng ganyanmore

as someone forced to bataller he isnt that bad as long as you’re not a math major. he loves statistics, and is very passionate about it. ive heard if you’re a math major, he expects a lot from you. if you’re not, then you are chilling while other classes may use simpler programs, he will require you to use R in your tests. you absolutely CANNOT miss a class because you will miss half of an entire module if you do. he teaches everything in class, and even the small things he will ask in the test. just study well. got B+ for this class so keri nmn po. 3 unit course feels like 10 unit pero ganun talaga minsanmore

actually not so bad(?) pero that’s my personal opinion i say this bc he indeed teaches efficiently and grades fairly :)) kaso lang 100 pts total ung reqs niya when i was under him sa math 10 so 1 mistake in any req warrants -1 agad sa final grade,,, so yea study tlga and be very mindful lang teaching-wise he’s rlly good nmn /gen to the point na around 30mins to 1hr sa lecture tapos na siya (he tends to dismiss early). he also has a good personality and is rlly fond of uaap athletes to the point na icucurve niya ung grades nila HAHAHAHHA tips: heavily reliant siya on his book which he co-authored so I suggest referring to that a lot! also do ur best and double check everything tlga in all his reqs and quizzes because he’s very particular w solutions, statistics, etc overall, B/B+-able and definitely A-able w lots of effort!! kaya yan yuhzz (yes, “yuhzz” is his frequently-used catchphrase HAHAHHA) go!! 🥳more

as someone who sucks at math + couldn't loadrev out, it's really all about studying in advance (1-2 weeks before the LT), submitting the practice exercises in the textbook bc he apparently gives bonus points for it, and praying you get good groupmates for the 2 major outputs he requires us to do 🤣 he is B/B+ able with maximum maximum effort (aka you fighting for your life every day) but 10/10 would not recommend bc it srsly just felt like self-study every day....more

I don’t know if you’ll be using the new textbook or sticking with Larsen-Marx, but either way he’s the lead instructor and likely siya in charge of majority of the LT contents. I had him for 62.1 but sophomore math majors had him for 61.2 so they can drop in too. The good: He knows his stuff and you can ask him for clarification after he dismisses early. He curves if you have “positive aura,” you’re the beadle, or you’re a student athlete playing in UAAP. Also since you have him he will teach you magic techniques that the other profs won’t. Psets are done as a class. The bad: Mabilis siya, and he won’t wait for you to understand the lessons. Medyo “wtf” nalang kayo after the class. The LTs are kinda magical and he’s not afraid of giving hefty deductions or failing you. Note that 61.2 is different between ME majors and Math majors, since you have to be introduced to set theory first in exchange for a lot less bivariate probability. But he used to handle ME majors and likes to roast them, so he’ll be chomping at the bit of teaching MEs again. Good luck!more

I love his handwriting. Teaching? Oks lng. Difficulty? Recently (last year) he gave probsets with problems ranging from “code-code lng sa R” to “I need to consult the sacred texts (Hogg’s Book) to answer this.” Yung probset namin ay hindi indiv. The class worked as one group. Answer and MEMORIZE EVERY item in his problem sets and ur gucci. Sa amin noon, sinabi niyang 70% of exam items ay manggagaling sa probset (sampled uniformly daw xD). Optional: Answer challenging problems from “Mathematical Statistics” by Hogg and “Statistical Inference” by Casella & Berger. Doon niya kinukuha ang mga mahihirap sa probsets niya.more
