I loved Ma'am Claire and chose to take her twice!! I'm ngl I wasn't sure if I was gonna pass her principles class but I was happy with my grade in the end. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but you just gotta tough it out. Vouch for Ms. Claire!! I always recommend her to anyone taking the advertising track because she teaches with real-world examples and experience. Like the other commenter said, she critiques hard but it’s never personal. Just follow her instructions and formats and always present yourself professionally. I’ve taken her 3 times (COMM 31, COMM 182.15, COMM 115) and I can definitely say she’s worth it!more

She was TOUGH but I'm TOUGHER (💅) lol pero kidding aside she's very meticulous when it comes to outputs. You would think that your ouput's perfect but when presentation comes she'll find a mistake HAHAHAHAHA. Her modules are light lang (almost empty) so you should really be smart in conceptualizing ads, collaterals, etc. Don't complicate your ideas because she really likes the simple but effective ads? Also, she always ensures that your ideas are cohesive. She likes giving situationers during presentations but don't be scared lol just use your common sense in answering her questions. A-able naman HAHAHAHA would defo recommend her if you’re mentally strongmore

Ma'am Claire is a good prof but she really isn't for the faint of heart
PROS:
- hands on work (gives you the REAL shit)
- gives good critiques on your work
- light-medium workload on the midterm part of the sem
CONS:
- groupwork heavy
- finals is nerve wracking
- not an easy A because your mental will be minced depending on your outputs
I would still vouch for her though HHAAHAHAHAHAH I loved our early morning convos and kamustahans but get good groupmates and you'll be set for the classmore

Definitely Ma'am Claire! She gets a lot of bad rep, but after taking her class, I think it's safe to say a lot of people are unfair to her bc they're too sensitive.
She never critiques YOU personally, but your work, and she has to bc you usually have workshop activities to help you improve your skills and prepare for midterms + finals. Her comments are all incredibly helpful and include a lot of industry relevant information and practice, so definitely take a lot of notes.
And the best part is that she trains you for her high standards without consequence. She doesn't grade her practice activities, and the presentations with your group allow you to learn everything without the pressure of being grade conscious.
Her only graded stuff is the midterm and finals, along with the LTs (which are online and very easy! Personally everyone I know in her class aced it, and I was able to ace all of mine too even though I was very sick for most of them)
Above all, she's kind and will take her time to explain to you what you did wrong or what might have been better.
Just definitely work on not taking it personally if you know you don't have thick skin, but again I don't think it's that bad, some people just take things way too harshly. Like would you rather you find out you've been doing everything wrong once you have the job? Ma'am Claire prepares you for your career and I'll stand on that personally.more

I personally define "good prof" as someone who knows how to teach and if you actually have solid knowledge after the sem. A "good prof" isn't someone that hands out A's all willy-nilly or a class you can accomplish half-heartedly.
Ms Claire is a good prof. Not chill, not easy, but you 100% will learn from her.
Vouch! Took her twice and after everything, i can firmly say i am in love with this field — nothing challenges me harder and pushes me to learn more than ad.

hi! took ricky for my comm 31 previously, and i would not recommend him as a prof. sure, he does help open your eyes to how the real advertising world works and by the end of the sem, he said you would have decided if you want to stick with advertising (I didn’t lol 🤣), but taking his class made me so burnt out that in the end, it wasn’t worth it at all.
his classes would always have weekly deadlines, and he’s very very strict with meeting these deadlines since it’s (1) training for ad (2) you will be presenting these the day of, so if you don’t have a presentation, that’s your loss. what’s more, you would be presenting something he hadn’t taught prior so it’s very self-study heavy, which is crazy bc there’s no readings in the class so you can’t figure out where to look. he will just give u instructions and it’s up to you on how to interpret it.
what was frustrating was that he wouldn’t grade them until the very end of the sem, so you hardly know your standing until the grade release— which he also posted late btw. he’s also not an easy a, and frankly, he doesn’t care if you’re a scholar or someone who wants to keep their qpi up, he will treat you unfairly.
speaking of unfair treatment, this is purely observation based so take it with a grain of salt, but sir ricky would show favoritism to certain ppl. he would be harsh to one side of the class but id notice he becomes nicer with his “favorites”. anyways, if you can, always have a guy message him bc from observation he somehow responds better to them than the girls. lol.
if you have no other choice but him, here’s some tips!
> make sure to be organized and that your points are all connected. minimize loopholes such as going overboard with ideas bc the simpler the better. he LOVES conciseness
> sharpen your presentation skills bc this helped me get an edge. if possible, memorize your spiels and don’t use scripts while presenting. feign confidence if you have to!
> for GROUP TASKS, make sure to delegate early and figure out what roles suit members best. you can overlap roles internally but play to ur group’s strengths
> don’t argue with him bc it’s a losing game tbh, just take his comments and try incorporating them as much as possible
i got a good grade in his class at the cost of my mental sanity tbh. his standards are crazy high you have to REALLY impress him to get a decent grade. still won’t recommend him though unless you want to reaaally test urself with your qpi on the line.

I personally took two classes with sir ricky— because he was just that good ☺️
in terms of workload, you definitely have something to do every week as he assigns a task or presentation to do that really challenges your creativity— but you learn so much from his feedback! don’t take it too personally when he critiques your work because he’s just looking out for you and how to improve :)
he stimulates his classes to be similar to “real life” working situations in the advertising industry, so it’s not a “no brainer” class 😅
he seems a bit scary at first but appreciates effort and is super DUPER generous with giving 100s as long as your work really deserves it! (in my experience during his creative writing class)
I’d say a bit difficult to reach an A, but easy B / B+ as long as you do the assignments & put your heart into them!
As someone who was unsure about advertising in the beginning, his classes definitely opened up my appreciation for advertising because he’s super passionate about it :>more

had her for com182.15 and oh my god 😅 she dgaf if ur a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. she WILL be ruthless. we had presentations every week, had 2-3 quizzes throughout the sem, and other individual outputs. she also likes creating and incorporating her own theories into lessons so if u don’t understand what she’s talking about, u are on ur own bc u can’t google it. she dgaf about u! she will tear ur output to shreds and say its “nothing personal.” if u need a sem-long group just make sure u get really good groupmates to help u survive
pro tip for surviving any com ad&pr class: DO NOT GET HER!!! but i guess if u want a challenging class, u can get her but warning: she is unforgivingmore

Hi! had her for COMM 31 and I liked her enough to take her as a prof again for COMM 182.15!
I do agree with all the comments, she IS very meticulous and blunt with her feedback and critiques. However, I really loved her feedback because it was very straight-to-the-point in a way that can be immediately applied to the output for revisions and the comments always made sense. There was always a solid reason as to why this and that were wrong in her eyes and she never made it a personal attack.
It can be a bit nerve-wracking and disheartening especially when she can sometimes tear down work that you put a lot of effort into, but, at the end of the day, it really helped my group with our final output.
TIPS:
- Take note of her critique and keep it in mind for the following presentations. (Also take note of the critique she gives other groups because it can be useful to you as well.)
- There are 3 quizzes (this was when I took the COMM 31 class that was only once a week) and then a Midterm and a Final presentation.
- Defend yourself when she makes a critique that you're SURE you can correct/defend. If not, don't talk back anymore. She doesn't like it when your defense is magulo and senseless.
- Choose good groupmates because you'll be stuck with them the rest of the semester.
- TAKE NOTES. Her presentations are very information-heavy but it's info that's very useful.
GRADES:
- Easy B if you take note of the lessons and apply them. Will easily get lower if you keep repeating the same mistakes, especially if you've already experienced them in previous presentations.
- A's are possible if you're very meticulous with you're output and apply all lessons and critiques she has given.more
