(Note: I had him for MATH 30.23) Overall Rating: B+/A-able with effort About his “A-problems” : usually 1 item in exams and long tests that’s significantly more difficult than the other items. They usually entail “thinking outside of the box” with your solutions since it’ll depend more on your understanding of the lesson than actually doing hard math (for us, the solutions were usually short at a glance…but pretty hard to think of). Don’t worry too much about answering these since you can still get a high grade even without getting the correct answer (you can still get an A in his class even without getting full points for any of the A-problems) PROS: -he curves final grade!! -he’s pretty lenient with partial points (especially for his “A-problems”) -he gives a lot of examples during class and in his canvas modules especially before long tests/midterms/finals -there is a chance (only in extreme situations) he’ll give extra credit if the class generally performs poorly on a major assessment (either taken from your problem sets or a separate optional assessment) -he gives take home problem sets which can help raise your grade -he’s pretty clear in his explanations during class + very methodical and clean with his solutions -he replies very quickly to canvas messages or gchat (we mostly used gchat), even if you message at night + open to consultations -very fast at grading assessments CONS: -his pacing can be pretty quick at times but you can ask him to clarify anything you don’t understand -since midterms and finals are departmental, they’re usually more difficult than long tests so study hard for those -he does expect you to remember your previous math lessons but I think you’ll be okay since I believe Math 30.13 is a prerequisite anyway (if that lesson only needs a really quick review, you can also ask him to skim through it to refresh your memory!) Good luck and enjoy his class cuz sir Errol is the GOAT!!!more

Reposting what I said under a review for Sir Errol in another post! Hii! I am Sir Errol’s beadle for one of his Math 21 classes this sem! Here are just a few things to note about him: Overall Rating: A-able with effort - He’s more chill compared to other math profs! (doesn’t mean he is easier though keep in mind) - Discusses well and gives lots of examples but goes a bit fast at times so please let him know if he goes too fast. Also do not hesitate to clarify with him concepts in the middle of class. - NOTE: He takes attendance at the end of the class, he is not really strict about the late policy as long as you’re in class. - He is willing to change modalities given a valid reason that the majority of the class will experience (ex. only having him as the only onsite class for the day, extreme rain). He doesn’t change modalities on his own accord unless he is sick. - For Math 21, we had 3 LTs spaced out with the midterm and finals in mind. - Grading wise, just be careful on the way he is asking you to answer a question. Sometimes he wants you to answer it in a step by step way (ex. even moving a value from one side to another in a equation) while others he doesn’t care as much. - He cares more about the solution rather than the final answer. Final answers are usually just 1-2 pts. - He doesn’t curve but in instances where an LT would have an average that is lower than what he is expecting, he might get points from one work and place it in the that LT. Genuinely a fun prof to be with! You will learn a thing or two when taking his class! I wish you the best!more

update after taking him: sir errol’s the goat! he teaches really well, super chill, and one of the better math profs there is sir errol gives many chances to bump up your grade (ie. take-home prob sets w/ the same weight as LTs). there was a time the class got low LT scores that he gave a bonus grp activity where we got +20. he shows high regard to his students, rlly responsive when scheduling consultations, and even had extra optional class sessions just to cover topics better. maybe the only con was his tests were a bit hard (the A-problems) and particular in solutions since he was more strict in grading it during the last modules (kinda understandable naman why tho 🥹) overall, highly recommend!more

Second Liora's comment about sir!I had him for Math 30.23. He is really A-able with effort.Sir gives alot of opportunities for you to practice problems before long tests. We had sessions alloted only for reviewing and he will give out problems sets as a way yo review also. In exams he usually gives out A-problems, a sort of deal-breaker that decides whether you'll get an A or B+ on the exam. For this you really need to get a good grasp on the concept and theories of what he is discussing and not just how to purely solve it.more

took sir errol for math 30.13 super goated! very A-able (ofc with effort) and easy B+ imo (emphasis on imo this is subjective, i took math 21 beforehand!) he explains things very clearly in class like his solutions are step by step and his sample problems are the same as what shows up in his tests! i also like that he provides powerpoints beforehand so you can annotate them and gadgets are allowed. also in his tests theres usually just one item that is harder in difficulty which is the bonus item HAHAHAH he also has problem sets which help bring up ur grade aside from the long tests and exams its also super easy to approach him and clarify things. and hes v generous w partial points!more

Just had Sir Errol for 30.23 this 2nd sem. He is great at teaching, his lectures are engaging, and the difficulty of his long tests are fair imo. Items are quite easy as long as you listen to class and practice a lot, except he adds one item a bit more difficult than the rest (which almost always determines whether or not you’re getting an A for that test). He isn’t the most lenient with partial points, and is quite particular with solutions. He no longer gives problem sets, but he did let us do a game (which gave everyone a free +10 in LTs, and some getting even more. Highest you could earn is +20.) I am unsure of whether or not he still curves, as I still don’t know my grade. But without the curve, he is an easy A if you are good in math. If not, he is still B+ and even A-able as long as you put in effort. I enjoyed his class a lot. He brought my love for math right back. I definitely recommend. :))more

Hi!!! So basically, im the guy who posted this, and I’m just giving a review for his class after taking it. This was his first sem in ateneo, which explains why no one commented on this before the sem started. I was in his Math10 class and I basically love him. He’s very A-able with even just a bit of effort. He’s a really good teacher, and is open for consultations and questions anytime. Sometimes, he can make the lesson seem easy, but don’t get complacent because his tests are harder than you would expect. This cost me the A. However, he’s also generous with the incentives, which helped bring me back up to an A. If your class has any requests, like changing modalities, incentives if there’s a valid reason for it, etc, he’ll gladly adjust to you guys. Overall, just keep asking him questions. He actually seems to really like it when someone is asking a lot of questions and one of his students is matching the interest he gives to the topic. He’s also very chill and he seems to like it when the class is lively and makes jokes. Sometime’s he won’t show that he think it’s funny, but he’s just a stereotypical math nerd, as well.more
