i dont really like her.
i feel like the main reason why i dislike her class is because she seemingly makes no effort to meet the students in the middle. her discussions are very one sided, with barely any interaction between student and teacher. they're based on her lecture notes that she reads, which can be difficult to follow. she speaks way too fast sometimes to be able to take notes, but also her tone of voice makes it really easy to fall asleep during class. her powerpoints are very word-heavy and occasionally even have typos. i generally always felt like the atmosphere in the room was so dead because she barely put any effort into making the class lively and enjoyable. i know that students still have a part in making that environment, but it also just feels like she was half-assing it talaga.
when it comes to the assessments, it's a paper and quiz for every module, and a few groupworks. for both of these assessments, you can honestly get by just on the powerpoints and whatever notes you end up compiling during class. follow the tips said by other commenters here regarding writing the papers, and really make sure that you allot time to them.
make sure that you have good groupmates for the groupworks, because though groupworks don't really happen often, i remember they held a pretty decent standing wrt grades.
one thing i will say though, she's really nice when you talk to her one-on-one. i had a few interactions with her regarding one of the quizzes that i had trouble with, and she was very nice to me, and whenever i had questions after class she was more than happy to answer.
tldr: she's not that good of a prof, but she's a good person. take this class if you have the mental fortitude to deal with an abundance of information, and if you dont want to do orals of any kindmore

She's generally an ok and a nice prof. What I write will be based on my own experience.
She provides all the slides for her lessons, but she will give you quizzes with typically 3 questions from whatever module you guys are covering. For us, she made us always use a single sheet of yellow pad paper for the quiz. The problem was there was so much to cover for the quiz that you weren't sure what the questions were going to be. So from maybe 5 different readings, she will only pick a few topics to be on the quiz. And the questions were always more analytical, like "can one be religious but not spiritual? Why or why not?"
She has no oral exams, but she does do discussion boards on canvas. She doesn't like doing online class so she just makes us do assignments on canvas for it. We had like 4 different reflection papers and one big final synthesis paper + a bonus paper on a documentary she would link.
But personally, I wasn't into her teaching style. She would ask some questions in the beginning of class, then move on to the lesson, but maybe it's the way she was reading off of the slides and explaining things was kind of boring, so I zoned out a lot. Still got a B, and that's good enough for me. I don't think she's an easy A, but hey, if I still got a B, despite not doing great at the quizzes then I think it's still possible if you manage to remember all her keywords and remember to take her reflection papers seriously.more

- She's pretty straightforward with how she grades (I dont think she curves)
- She's A-able naman with mid-effort
- She doesnt give feed back or yung breakdown how she grades so better ask her bc she will give you.
Tips
- For the paper, briefly explain how you understand the concept then show your own example/insights
- Be concise with your sentences. NO long sentences. (imo, its the surest way to get an A)
- Personally, I didnt read the readings when reviewing for the quizzes and just studied her PPTs and my notes.
- Ask her for clarifications + recite! I ask her clarifications when im confused and it helped a lot but i hardly recite since i dont know really have background on catholicism or christian living
- Attend her classes bc from what i remember, it holds a percentage and ifonly half (or even less) of the class shows up, she might oush through with surprize quizzes (she mentioned this to us a couple of times but it never happened)more

hii she's great and very motherly! she's worked in government for several yrs so a lot of the lesson materials and lectures will be deeply related to that. We were the first class she handled so I'm not sure if it'll change but the amount of material was just right, lectures can get kinda long and repetitive although we were often dismissed quite early in our 3-hr sessions. she really appreciates class participation and will sometimes ask students for their thoughts post-lecture. the reqs she gave were easy lang din and you'll get commended for any extra effort. overall, great, not stressful class, and also easy A!more

hello hello !! if i recall correctly, she really graded based on the effort you gave. like aminado ako sa sarili ko na i didnt put all that much effort into her class because her teaching style irked me, and because of that i walked away from it with a relatively low grade (i think i got something like a c or c+). but i think that if you really try and absorb the readings and understand what she's talking about, you could get a good grade. she's kind of the worst of both worlds in that sense -- mema prof who surprisingly locks in kapag grading. good luck if you get her though i hope that she's gotten better ever since 😭more

UPDATE: im very happy to say that shes genuinely one of, if not THE, best prof/s i have currently been under in Ateneo. it really does take a bit of time to warm up to her, but shes genuinely so intelligent and wants the best for her students. she even said “the reason why i teach here (in the ph instead of singapore where she taught for a lot of her career) is because i want to give people a better education”. all throughout the course, she hammered in the importance of having good governance and intelligent leaders in power, which is something i find so refreshing in an elderly person esp since people in the older generation, generally speaking, always try to blame the younger generation and don’t acknowledge systemic issues that perpetuate oppression and poverty. her comments might sting due to how direct they are, but i would rather that than having vague comments that wont help me in fine tuning my essay. lowk sad i didnt get to beadle for her 😞more

my experience was okay (although for context I love writing papers and it was a paper heavy class hehe)
You write a lot of papers (5 total - 4 big papers - 12.5% each and 1 synthesis paper which is 30%) in class and that’s what derives most of your grade. she doesn’t grade too high but not too low either. i think the average lowest anyone got for a paper was around 23, with 1-point deductions for lateness.
she’s very introverted as a lecturer, but still really nice and approachable. imo breaks concepts down well, in a very simple and clear way with nice examples, but paolo’s points abt the discussion are also pretty much accurate. I wouldn’t say no effort but we could have had sessions that built on our own insights more. she would usually ask us to share experiences that related to the concept we were discussing but it wouldn’t go much further than that.
we had some quizzes, group activities, participation, and other than the papers, all-in-all it felt like a pretty regular class.
if you’re looking for an insane mind-blowing DLQ, this may not be the class for you. although if you enjoy reflection through writing, and usually have your bigger realization moments through that, it could be a fulfilling experience toomore
