Hi, I took her onsite this semester. Though we're not done yet with her, she's been pretty great so far. You'll learn a lot because her discussions are thorough and well-thought-out. She relates her lectures to current events as well. Though, do note that the "political" part of the course is on the latter parts of the semester because she wants to build on the fundamentals of philosophy first.
Her requirements are:
1. Readings that must be annotated in Perusall - this is highly recommended because it gives you a good grasp of the lesson before the recitation.
2. Every week (or every reading), there's a recitation that you must prepare for. She gives the questions she'll ask in advance so you can think of something before the day of the recitation itself. It isn't your usual "What is the ___?" questions though, they're usually your thoughts or what you think the author meant in the readings. It's to propel the discussion that will take place on the recit day itself.
3. Two oral exams - one for midterms and one for finals
4. Group discussions via Canvas (I think we only did two)
5. Final paper
She grades fairly well compared to what I expect (I'm a pessimist). You need to put in effort to understand the readings especially if you want an A or B+. Despite the seemingly heavy requirements (blame the dense readings -- this is Philosophy. It's expected), I really enjoyed her class. Wouldn't mind taking her again if given the opportunity.more

ma’am paclibar is one of the best profs i’ve had!! i strongly recommend that you take her class!
requirements: she gives a lot of reqs but they’re manageable. we had a reading every week that we had to annotate and study for. we had two oral exams which were quite challenging, but she gives the prompts beforehand so you can prepare! she likes it when you’re able to relate the lessons to political events/life experiences. she would ask follow-up questions during the orals but as long as you answer them well you’re good! we also had a final written exam at the end of the sem. she has very specific rules for the final exam so make sure you follow them.
teaching style: she teaches in both eng and fil. although the readings are tricky, she explains them well during class. overall, she’s really good at making the lessons digestible. she doesn’t allow gadgets though so you’d have to bring a notebook to class.
grading: for the orals, we were graded on a scale of 0-4. for the final grade, i’d say she’s an easy B/B+, but you really have to put in effort to get an A! i managed to get an A because i did well in the orals so make sure that you prepare well!
i still remember every single reading we did in philo 11.05 because she’s just THAT great at making the lessons stick in u!! ma’am paclibar made me love philo!! 💗more

I took her class just last sem, I’d say B+/B with effort (A is possible but hard). V long readings (tho it is to be expected sa philo) and quizzes are group oral quiz (no written individual ones so if groupworks and recits are your thing then this is for you if not goodluck). I can’t say pick good groupmates since you can’t choose so I guess just hope for the best? Doc Paclibar changed her style for midterms and finals, she’ll give you a passage from one of your assigned readings for that exam on the spot then you’ll have 5 mins. to think of your answer then explain it to her. She’ll give you a scratch paper to organize your thoughts during that five minutes but you can’t look at it too much during the explanation period (glances lang to guide you what you say pero you can’t just read off of it). One good thing tho is she does somehow “guides” you to the right answer like if you start blanking out or if you said something contradicting to the correct answer.more

the readings were REALLY GOOOD not too long (coming from someone who didn’t like required readings) and the discussions were really fruitful:] the philo concepts are still things i remember even after a year of taking the class and very useful in other courses you’ll take!! (super applicable + relevant so i would really describe this class as Fruitful with 0 reservations)
we do have orals but ma’am guides you—just make sure you prepare well and show her that you really reviewed the material!
definitely needs effort but if you put in the work, the return is huuugee ❤ especially if you’re taking philo to realllyyy learn 🤝 loved the class because of ma’am and i’d take it again any day 🫶more

we didn't have much reqs aside from orals so u really have to prepare for those (a mix of the readings and her lessons are more preferred; better if u can cite specific parts of the readings)
overall easy B+ and A as long as u do well in the major reqs that hold a lot of weight. she's super nice and i def would recommend her if u want a fairly chill philo classmore

I had her class online and I loved all our discussions even though I am not really into Philo and I was batch 2 pa so surprisingly I got a good class naman. 😊
We had to annotate the readings each time on Perusall, which for me was time consuming, but it did help me prepare for the synch sessions since we would reference those. The readings were all very fun to read also. Some were really long but SO WORTH it!! We also had two orals and the readings and discussions talaga will help since after you explain your thesis statement she will ask questions so you have to know what ur talking abt AHAHA.
She's strict with her guidelines especially with emails but she's considerate and fair. It's possible to get an A but you really have to do well in the orals.
For me, it wasn't my easiest class in terms of content but it was chill in terms of requirements 👍🏻 I definitely learned a lot and I would take her class again if I could 🫶

currently taking her for onsite, and shes the sweetest!! very approachable and considerate if ever you have any questions or problems, re: the class. assignments are mostly perusall annotations that you have to do ~biweekly, but dw since theyre only 5% of your overall grade! the other main assessment (aside from orals) is the random recit, which means you have to prepare to answer 5 questions in class per reading. but i loved the readings honestly and she makes the discussions super engaging, so doing the assignments never felt like a chore! youll def enjoy her since shes super knowledgeable and passionate about the course and is comfortable answering questions about it too ^u^more

I took her a pretty long time ago but shes super nice, i enjoyed the class. Probs my fave philo class, but the bar is very low lmao. Interesting insights from her, and I Iiked the readings (as someone who hates readings). Recitation is pretty chill, kinda fun bc i like talking. Orals was also pretty easy for me, I think I got a good grade. I lowkey bombed the final paper tho.

had her for philo 11 but she's really good!! she knows how to connect with her students in a way that idt most philo profs can do and makes the lessons insightful and engaging. it's impossible to pass her class without paying attention to the readings, but her teaching style makes it worth it naman.
UPDATE: i just realized philo profs not allowing you to use index cards in your orals is not normal. take this review with a grain of salt as she's an excellent teacher, but her one major downside is that your orals have to be completely memorizedmore
