Chill but too fast; weird bonus grading

He's definitely a chill prof, but a lot of the time his class is too fast and you probably wont be able to keep up if you try and code at his speed (hence why he says to just listen and not try to code sometimes). Most of the classes are spent watching him code with some time at the start of modules to discuss the contents. As for the grading, the LTs are departmental, so nothing to say there, but he has quizzes which are just 1 around easy-medium problem from the practice exercises in the ABC workbook (you can prepare by having solutions to all the problems 😘). He has a lot of bonus stuff, but the way he applies the bonus is really weird since he dilutes the total instead of adding them to your score. My biggest standout from his class tho is the comp prog competitions he held throughout the sem, they were really fun even though my team never won . Overall hes not bad but be wary of not being able to keep up during the lessons.more

whats an abc workbook po? Can i read it on online to study in advance? Or is it something he just gives out?

Good Prof! 🔥🔥 He explains concepts a bit fast and there isn't that much time to solve the given practice exercises on your own during class hours. Though he's very accommodating and willing to slow down when answering questions from the class. Also I think his 71.1 class is now a 3-hour session every week instead of two 1.5-hour sessions so that's something to consider. He's very lenient with extending deadlines, especially for problem sets. Quizzes and LTs are also relatively simple as far as I remember. The difficulty of the assessments are similar to the exercises he does in class. As for grading, I remember him being chill with grading. As long as he sees you going in the right track he gives partial points. The nature of the course makes it so that you need to practice using the questions provided in the book, and other exercises sir provides.more

update: he's nice and chill. for math 51.4 essentially gave a free 20% cause he doesn't do hws or assigments LOL. he really feels passionate about math and sometimes it makes him a bit confusing since he tends to ramble a lot but it does get you excited naman HAHAHA. not sure if its just this year, but there were LTs that were over 100 but had 110 total possible points which carried me to getting an A. Sir ortega does give you important examples that are similar in the test so as long as you study properly, its easy b+ imomore
