Posting this right after our second long test in Math 51.1.
In retrospect, I should have ran. Just kidding! In all honesty, his class was probably one of my favorite math classes of all time.
He’s really passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches which made the class super enjoyable. As for his teaching style, he’s really systematic in terms of how he approaches problems but sometimes there are big logical leaps which could be hard to understand if you’re lacking in math fundamentals. If you feel like you’re struggling, he’s always available to help. For like half the intersession there was a group consulting with him until 5 or 6 everyday. He also has a masterfile containing all the discussion recordings, handouts, and extra practice exercises so you have all the resources you need.
For most, what’s not fun about his class is the difficulty of it. The homework was manageable but the bulk of the workload came through the surprise quizzes. I’m not sure if he will hold them in a regular semester class but it really pressured our class to study math every day so as to not get caught lacking. His surprise quizzes usually only took like 10-20 minutes so if you’re not familiar with the topic or struggle under time pressure it’s kinda…
Eventually, I think he will be known as one of the hardest math professors because his long tests are just that hard. Never trust him when he says it will be easy or doable because it never will be. They’re so hard that he might have caused one or two people in our class to go bald…
For grading, he doesn’t do a class curve but I have heard that he gives individual curves if just need that little bump to pass or get an A.
You will only get an F if you truly deserve it.
If you really struggle with math then maybe a D/C with high effort.
If you’re an average student then C/C+ with high effort.
Even those that got A’s in 31.1 or 31.2 had to put high effort just to get a B or B+.
You will get an A only if you’re a math god. Or maybe you have a chance if the exams are departmental so he’s not the only one making the long test.

personally, he's a pretty easy A *with some effort*. the first module is not something you'd really expect from the usual math class, but it really sets up the foundations for sir's expectations. workload is not heavy at all, esp down the line later in the sem, but expect readings at the start of the sem : ] when it comes to lts / exams, just study and you'll be good, trust ! he can be flexible in some deadlines for some major submissions.
i say A with some effort because it definitely is not the type of class you can regularly cut on or miss out on assessments. still, just putting in the effort to attend classes and submit quality requirements is good!
on a less objective note, he was definitely one of my favorite profs : ] parang kuya lang hahaha. his passion for what he does is downright contagious; some of my section mates who don't like math ended up really enjoying it because of him. he really put the modern world in the subject name ngl... even math can be made a lens to put our positions in life into perspective : ] a great guy!!!!
overall advice (sorry if this was messy 😵💫):
attend as many sessions as you can. especially in later modules, there will be a bunch of in-class work. don't cram readings in the 1st module and try to seriously digest them instead of just skimming; this will be important. lastly, just try to have fun : ] ik a math class being fun seems foreign, but trust me, it'll help.

If he keeps the same format you'll be doing problem sets, quizzes (online AND onsite almost every meeting), orals, and the major exams. It can be a lot but it helps that they're weighted to help you if you do bad in any of them. Failing an exam is far from the end of the world and you can bawi through many other means.
As a teacher, he's great! Chill but teaches well and really knows his stuff. If you're lost in class he provides handwritten lecture notes with a bunch of examples that are extremely helpful in recognizing patterns and etc.
He's fun too, lots of after class talking to genuinely just chat, he's young so you can talk about a bunch of more current news and etc. it's great destress after more difficult days.
He has two things in our class for the midterms and finals where if everyone in the class passes then everyone gets a plus 5 and another where if he opens a god pack (yes like Pokemon card god pack) there's another plus 5, no he didn't get any in ours though.
If you're having a heavy sem I might consider another prof but if you're on the lighter end then he's a great choice! He has more empathy imo though he prolly won't admit that. Watch your manners too as a class but that's a given duh.

the orals were based off of the problem sets! essentially it's to gauge how much you actually know conceptually. you pick a random number, solve in front of him then explain! but be careful about your solution because he could stop you from time to time just to ask questionsmore

Hi, I agree with all you said, thank you for that, only I cannot agreed with the easiest A part… I am taking him this intercession, for discrete maths (M51.1) and yes, he is very attentive; as a teacher talaga he goes above and beyond, but with that comes his extremely high standards. He admitted that this was his first time teaching this type of Math class, he is good at teaching it though, but whatever our LT1 was, was the hardest math LT I ever took, and I’ve taken maths up to Linear Algebra. Note that the difficulty of the test was well conceived by the class… by me who took the hard previous LTs for M51.1; his test I believe was much harder than all the rest was…. His pop quizzes were pretty difficult within itself, especially with the 10-15 minute time limit…. I perhaps thought the the difficulty of the LT would be around that, and yet it was much more difficult than that. anywaysmore

One of the best professors I’ve had, and someone I’d highly recommend. He graduated about 4 years ago, so he knows how a student feels with their grades.
What really stood out was how dedicated sir was to his students. He uploaded recordings of every discussion which made reviewing lessons so much easier, especially before quizzes or whenever you needed to revisit a topic. He also provided plenty of learning materials such as handouts and book exercises, so you were never left without resources to study from!
On top of that, sir was always available for consultations. It was everyday till 5pm. He was approachable, responsive, and genuinely willing to help whenever students had questions or needed clarification outside of class.
The course and assessments are manageable and doable. Earning a high grade is absolutely achievable if you listen attentively in class and make use of all the resources he provides.
Highly recommended! Easiest A you can get in the Math Department! Take him whenever you can at all costs!more

What's worse is that my friends who had a different prof were so chill because of how easy their exams were compared to ours 🥲. Got my lowest grade from him and it may have ruined my mental health. What's worse is that we were taking it with compsci students so there was no reason to curve. If you're good at statistics and want a challenge, go take him. but if you suck (like me), take another prof.more

workload is kinda heavy! we had probsets per module then orals for the probsets, and quizzes per module also? (iirc) .. alot of studying from the book and he will really test ur knowledge on the concepts!! the tests are quite unpredictable TT my only advice is practice practice and more practice if u think its enough its not LOL

Sir's very passionate about what he teaches kaya he was super excited to finally teach the subject when I got him! What I really appreciated about his teaching style was that he really wants you to understand everything in-depth!
His requirements were 1 Midterm, 1 Final, quizzes after each topic (one item only), 3 problem sets, 3 orals for each of the probsets, then some check up quizzes (5-10 items) on canvas.
Tips and tricks:
- Go through the WHOLE section of book problems. 31.2 in general naman requires you to keep on practicing because there's infinite amounts of possible problems that could appear.
- what really helped me was turning solving into a systematic approach! I made summary sheets which helped a TON. Really focus on your understanding then you'll be fine :))
- give it your ALL in orals! it'll definitely help you since you get to practice + he'll see if you understood the material talaga.
- make sure all of you pass the exam because he gives a bonus if the whole class does. he also opens a pack of Pokemon cards and your bonus is based on what he gets (not sure if he does it pa)
Overall, B/B+ is achievable! If A, put all your time into 31.2more

Hes pretty chill, a very energetic and lively prof so you definitely won't be falling asleep in class. He's also well organized and checks pretty fast unlike other math profs. Also if you need any extra help you can usually have a consultation with him. Overall a really good prof, just study before each class.more
