New prof! :) We were his first class. Things to know:
1) Readings come in pages of 20-40 (and each page has two pages)
2) The power points, are often exact replicas of the things in the readings. The difference is that the stuff in the powerpoint are the selected facts he deems important in the reading (doesn't mean he won't put in other stuff in his quiz tho). He shifts power points pretty quick too so you can't really copy everything.
3) Energetic, and not boring (but if you're the type to be very particular about profs and their content, you'll probably think otherwise)
4) Lots of group works and quizzes
5) Overall however, if you're looking for content that significantly extends beyond what the readings say, (especially when you get to the latter portion of the sem, which involves the constitution) this is not the prof to take. He is nonetheless, okay and if you want insight into what it's like in ALS (ateneo law school), I'm pretty sure he can help!

hi! he's pretty chill for socsci 12. same as what everyone else said regarding having a lot of readings (that you don't REALLY need to read) -- he gives a lot, but as long as you listen in class & take note of what he puts in the ppt, as well as recite & stuff, he's an easy B+. to get an A, he really wants to see the magis in you though HAHAHA & his standards are higher for presentations than they are for papers, so be sure to be extra bongga:P easy & fun class naman, but kind of boring if you already tackled the syllabus in senior high school.more

hi op, vouching for sir oli/quintana as well !!! had him for intact + my polsci courses & can say that he genuinely makes it a safe space for learning. as long as you go through the readings he says (also found in the syllabus), the quizzes would be fine. when a few of us also had difficulties hearing back from our internship placement, he really helped make sure we weren’t left in the dark. he’s very approachable, considerate, and clearly cares about students learning instead of just getting through the class. discussions are engaging, and he’s overall one of the profs i enjoyed learning from !!more

He's pretty chill. Lots of readings and he quizzes you on some of them but tbh i never read much, just the main points. He's very considerate in that you can cancel quizzes or request for bonuses
For finals, make your own thesis statements but you can bring a script.
He studied in Korea so he uses korean examples sometimes to contrast it with the Philippines.more

Took him 2nd sem of last school year. It was a fun class, and he was very energetic, which was important for an 8am class.
Because he had such an early timeslot, he gave additional points to those who were never late or absent.
We had one major group paper, and that was a significant portion of our grade. It was tied with our JEEP, so I'm not sure if it will be the same for graduating students.
Our finals was an oral exam where we had to make 3-5 (I can't remember) thesis statements about any topic discussed in the course, and explain them to him with examples.
He gives a lot of readings, but you can get a decent grade without reading all of them.
Read up on current events, especially controversial/hot topics.Those appear a lot as bonus questions on quizzes.
Overall, he's a pretty generous grader and easily one of my favorite profs in college. 😊more

As someone who got him twice for our majors, he’s very beginner-friendly, funny, makes the lessons easy, and very quotable!
Do note lang na he gives quizzes before discussions because he says: “Kasi kung walang quiz, walang nagbabasa!”
Overall, madali siyang kausap and he replies fast when you email him. Try being a beadle for him, di ka magsisisi.

quintana is sooo goated, his lectures are fun and never boring!! i took him for 130 and polsci 21. he grades fairly (maybe high pa nga eh) and is considerate! as an average student i got B+ naman as my final grade. workload is medyo heavy but manageable! and he gives a lot of bonuses, and highly recommend that u do them. also iirc if its a valid reason, he does let you take a quiz if you miss one… tldr: take him! you won’t regretmore

I LOVE SIR OLIVER!!!
He has so many readings, mga 2-3 in one go. But he paces them well and he provides a lot of insights na wala sa reading.
I personally loved my experience with him kasi he's funny and engaging, and he gives meaningful anecdotes from his work in government!!!
Nakakaloka lang kasi ang final project namin ay play. As in dula. As in we had to write produce and stage a play about any topic during the course. But it was so fun! Super pamatay pero worth it, kasi napapasaya ko naman si Sir Oliver hahaha
He's also veeeery updated with current events and his quizzes are LOADED with bonus items. So you really have to read up on the news, and stuff. He likes it when you're politically aware, and if you know key persons in government etc.
He really is the best. Fave prof during my last sem in college!!!

He was my prof for SocSc 12 and I vouch for him!! Agree with the person who said super fun and lively! His assessments (essays) weren’t hard and his quizzes are all based on his readings which aren’t long either. He’s super chill and as long as you read the readings you’re good to go. A-able!!! (No cap, legit) He also gives plus points to those who have complete attendance which can really help if you’re points away from the next grade. Take him!! :))more
