Low maintenance, funny, extends a lot, highly recommend

took him for my last semester in ateneo and i really enjoyed his class in spite of all the mismatch in the type of class i’d usually take HAHAHA
- he has 2 ONSITE MEETINGS every week and the beadle takes attendance for all of it. i think u get 5 cuts? for the whole sem so use it wisely (i’m not sure if other profs still only require 1 meeting per week for the incoming semester) — he records his lectures and makes them available in a gdrive
- he’s v sabaw and frustrated in an atenean philo prof type of way but it’s pretty fun (at least for me HAHA) + he makes a lot of jokes i think he’s funny
- reqs: (might seem heavy but tbh, it was all pretty manageable in the end + the extensions r always present to save the day)
* you’ll be watching a film (he has a list) for your first paper and use it to explain how you understand module 1-2, you can use the same film for the second paper which will focus on other modules (midway into the sem)
* he’ll be making you watch at least 2 films in this class
* we had 3 “long tests” but they’re basically short essays where you answer mga 3-4 questions about the modules (he’ll say which specific reading you have to read to get through it and it’s pretty doable)
* there’s a final paper which basically goes into the final module about vocation and principle
* final orals where you can choose your groupmates (2-3) or go solo (grading is individual through and through, though)
- this is a fil class, you won’t be allowed to make submissions in english. he also dislikes improper code-switching on paper, ok lang if recitation where it’s impromptu but it needs to be filipino if it’s a formal submission. (not sure sa orals, maybe he’ll spare you if you really need to articulate FEW stuff in english)
- that being said, there’s almost literally no recit onsite (if there is, it might be bc you have a question. but he doesn’t ask questions that incite recit). it’s mostly just him lecturing. you’re free to recite though. (he thinks it’s easier to have people recite online)
- he extends a lot. he knows we’re all dying in our final year so he’ll be v amenable to it, esp. if a lot (or even just some) asks for it. don’t be afraid to ask! he’s v nice.
- v approachable to talk about lessons or just kwento
- midway, i stopped taking notes and didn’t watch some of the online classes 🧍♂️ i also didn’t read any of the modules until it was 1-2 days before the long tests (even then, i only read the specific readings he said we should read) and mostly tuned into class (vice versa will also be ok i think) and it turned out perfectly fine. this is a v low maintenance class, i’d recommend it if you want to enjoy a class while also not wanting to think too hard about it.
- he’s v batch 2-able (bc i was batch 2 and got him). if you’re batch 2 and can get him, i absolutely recommend him. most of your peers will be transferring to his class HAHAHA by loadrev, so if you don’t get in his class early, you might not be able to get his class anymore. i promise you’ll feel like you got batch 1 picks if you pick him, no regrets HHAAHA he’s better than many other batch 2 profs.more

his classes are filipino but he talks in english so the discussions are v easy to understand. agree na he's on the chiller side of the profs. for DLQ, you don't have to worry about recitations in class. never siya nagpa-recite bc that's not his thing daw. he really makes the discussion fun and he kwentos about himself a lot. by the end of the sem you'll know so much about him na HAHAHAHA. BUT he goes off-tangent a lot. kaya minsan it's hard to listen, yung parang mag-cr ka lang pagbalik mo iba na topic. i found it a bit hard to retain my attention in his class kasi nawawala lagi sa topic. but imo he's really a good prof for dlq since he's passionate about the course. for modes of learning, we were onsite but he always gave the students option to go online, not sure what his plans are now. he also never checked our attendance.
for requirements, iirc isang canvas quiz, dalawang maikling papel (movie review format), and the final oral exam (by group). very light and manageable, sir gives a list of filipino films to choose from then we try to relate it to the module (he says he doesn't like reflections). he's a big advocate for local cinema! for final oral exam he won't punish you for code-switching naman and he'll let you continue. mas strict siya when it comes to the papers.
grading-wise, i feel like you have to be clear and know what you're saying. since konti lang requirements, it's really a high stake situation (lalo na walang class recit). i would still say it's fun kasi movie analysis naman siya though! as long as you use concepts from discussions you're fine. sir has a funny tone kaya his oral exam was not that intense for me (to be sure, go with your friends). also another fact: he's one of the people who made the DLQ course, kaya he knows if binobola mo lang siya.
overall, really memorable prof. the way he teaches really sticks with you. for me it was a B+ with a bit effort, but definitely A-able!more

i think his classes are usually in filipino but i took him for philo 11 (in filipino) so i’m not sure
he’s on the chiller side as a prof and i actually liked him and the stuff he taught (and the concepts he wrote about in his book). my friend said that for DLQ he requires 2 film reviews, some online tests, and a final orals exam by pairs or threes
when i had my orals with him you can choose for it to be held either online or onsite. he said that he won’t see you reading off a script if it were to be held online which basically meant na pwede ka magprepare ng script for it 😭😭 keep in mind that it was for philo 11 though and he liked our class. overall if you put enough effort, B to B+, and A if you’re decent in filipino and your answers to his essay questions/reviews aren’t malabomore

Hi! Sir was my Philo 11 prof but I hope this helps padin.
Overall, I liked his class! Sir really likes to crack jokes then and there during the discussion in order to make it more lively as he discusses philosophical concepts. He’s honestly so chill, ngl parang kausap mo lang tropa mo kapag nagddiscuss siya /pos! Sometimes the discussions are quite heavy since Sir really likes to elaborate on such concepts but you can use the presentation slides as your guide to keep track! It helped a lot for me.
Assessments contain quizzes, reporting, and a group oral exam for finals. Sir is kinda strict with using Filipino as a language but he doesn’t judge you naman if you’re not fluent.:)
Quizzes are based on chapter readings so make sure to get his book and read the chapter thoroughly! They’re easy to get a perfect score on as long as hindi ka malabo sumagot and that you’ve elaborated on the concept articulately! Sir appreciates it kapag kitang kita na you’ve read the chapter. Reporting was done in groups, 6 members each iirc, and pipili kayo ng issue to discuss and analyze in a philosophical and political lens! Lastly we conducted our group orals for finals and we get to choose between onsite and online:) during the orals Sir was very lenient and he even helps you get on track if ever you experience trouble expressing your answers. He is very patient with you and even guides you to get the answer he’s looking for! 💝
He’s a great prof. I definitely had a wonderful experience taking his class. A-able!more

I learned a lot from him. Most of the assessments are based on his book and movie list (great Filipino movies btw).
In terms of grading, I’d say he loves when you cite specific lines from his book and reflect on them plus adding your own insight.
Also ma-kwento though sometimes overshares that I disassociate but it’s relevant to the lesson
Assessments were mostly essays and we had a final oral exam. Also adjusts deadlines if the class has a valid reason.
My tip for you if you’re aiming for an A is read the book he wrote and read it as soon as possible. The chapters are all connected, so you’ll really need to read it. Don’t be intimidated though with the pages as it’s kinda easy to understand (with some statements kinda confusing but honestly just ask him he’s willing to answer). Like what I mentioned earlier, cite relevant lines, reflect, and add your insight.
Class was chill overall I enjoyed his class, A-able with effort. Encouraged me to see my life differently 🫶more
