Daily recits but he guides you; never bored

sorry if my reply doesnt sound useful but here is a more comprehensive review Firstly, he does daily recitations which can be daunting but he guides you to the answers naman, you just have to do the readings before and you are good. Second, his teaching style is really good, he specializes in catholic education (though DLQ is not really theology) which means he really makes sure you are engaged with the lesson. There was no class where I was genuinely bored. He really challenges your view and make sure you are learning deeply and not just surface level. For our first class for example he had us thinking that we will do tightrope for our finals 😩 Also don't be intimidated by the fact that he is a priest, he is very open minded and non homophobic, for our oral exm he gave us a verse that said something homphobic and we have to interpret that as to why that really isnt the case. The only bad thing is that he can be vague if you ask him about something, but thats just because he really wants and believes that YOU can figure it out. His grading is also very fair, he is not an easy A but tbh a B is a minimum for him, unless you like just outright did not submit tasks, he will for sure give you a Bmore

Like he's not nitpicky just because, it's usually because he wants you to arrive the best possible answer. He sometimes coldcalls during class, but he is NEVER mean about it and will definitely always encourage you/everyone to try to answer. Also gives the best puzzles in discussions/lectures. Like you'd literally have realizations while IN class. That's how goated he is. I learned sm with the one sem I had with him. I swear if you have him you're gonna miss him nd his teaching style for the rest of ur years IF I COULD BE TAUGHT BY HIM AGAIN I WOULD 10000/10 EXPERIENCEmore

had him for theo 11! fr. alvarez is not an easy A, but there were a few in my class who managed to do so. a lot of us got around b-b+ tbh even if he was difficult, it’s SO worth it to take his class. he really challenges you to think outside the box, and to use your critical thinking skills. you’ll really enjoy his lessons if you like engaging group discussions. he didn’t have quizzes, recitations lang. truly the GOAT. he really changed my perspective on stuff. would take him again!!more
